Dr Peter Tyler is Senior Lecturer and Programme Director of Pastoral Theology at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham, and until recently was the Director of the M.A. in Christian Spirituality at Sarum College, Salisbury. He has had a long interest in the Christian mystical tradition, especially the lives and writings of the Spanish Carmelite saints, St Teresa of Avila and St John of the Cross. For many years, he has co-led, with Julienne McLean, retreats to Spain to study their writings and visit the places most associated with their lives and work. His doctoral work combined his interest in mystical theology with psychology and philosophy. He has published The Way of Ecstasy – Praying with Teresa of Avila (1997, Canterbury Press) and John of the Cross – Outstanding Christian Thinker (2010, Continuum). He is also an accredited psychotherapist.
