Seeing with the Eye of the Heart on the contemplative journey
Thomas Merton once wrote: 'It might be a good thing to open our eyes and see. Just let the reality of what is real sink into you….for through real things we can reach him who is infinitely real.' This final lecture uses a variety of images from sacred and secular art, allowing ourselves to see, and gaze upon the mystery of the reality of God and the wonder of all that is real. To see with the eye of the heart enables us to not only to see clearly, but also bring that contemplative gaze into the here and now, as we remind ourselves once again that 'Beauty is the real aspect of things when seen aright and with the eyes of love.'
