2011 Pilgrimage | 2012 Pilgrimage | 2013 Holy Island |
A week of silence and reflections on the mystical
writings
from the Christian contemplative tradition,
on beautiful Holy Island, Scotland.
Sat 25th August – Sat 1st September 2012
Led by Julienne McLean, Viv Stacey, Revd Iain McKillop
The Retreat The aim of the retreat is to provide sacred time, place and community for entering more deeply into silence and communion. We will be exploring spiritual guides from the Christian contemplative tradition and creating a daily rhythm of traditional spiritual practices. These will include liturgical prayer, spiritual reading, silent meditation and praying with sacred art. We hope the retreat will provide nourishment for those who seek the fullness of the Christian vision of peace and unity in the world. We will be exploring the wisdom way of knowing encouraged by the Spanish mystical writings –
The Venue Holy Isle, located off the Isle of Arran on the south west coast of Scotland, is officially designated as a UK Sacred site and has a long spiritual history, stretching back to the 6th Century. It is endowed with an ancient healing spring, the hermit cave of a 6th Century Celtic monk, St Molaise, and evidence of a 13th Century Christian monastery. The island was bought by Tibetan Buddhists (Kagyu tradition) in 1992 who run the Centre for World Peace and Health on the north of the Island. Alongside their ongoing retreat and course programme (see www.holyisle.org) their vision is for the Centre to also become a focal point for interfaith work and retreats, as well as being a peaceful refuge from the hectic modern world.
